Conclusions

With the opportunity of interviewing Rudy Rodriguez, we were able to thoroughly review and analyze the information systems used within Sheraton Time Square Hotel. While analyzing Sheraton Time Square Hotel our team was able to observe 2 information systems that could be updated and fixed. Sheraton Time Square Hotel doesn’t have a complete staff that is house-keeping experienced. We also noticed information silos within Sheraton Time Square Hotels’ information systems. We came to the conclusion that Sheraton Time Square Hotel would greatly benefit from the following recommendations. For staff it would be beneficial for them to hire union workers who know how to complete the duties of their job properly and to make notice of what has been done. We realize that the Sheraton Time Square Hotel hire interns who are given instructions on what to do, but without the proper experience they don’t know how to do so properly. This is where smart carts and tablets would come in handy. Also, the use of a paper system is outdated and useless. Therefore, keeping the system running indefinitely would be the best solution. Even if it has to go down for one hour, the tablets should be the temporary substitute in collecting information, later updating when the system comes back up.

From analyzing Sheraton Time Square Hotel we were able to learn a number of things. First we learned information systems are the root of all businesses. Regardless of the department, there is an information system to support it. Social media was also part of the learning experience because we discovered new ideas of how social media could be very beneficial. Sheraton Time Square Hotels’ social media attracts customers, receives feedback and recommendations for improvements, and advertises the rooms and amenities with pictures and virtual tours. Lastly, information silos can negatively affect a business if the flows of communication do not happen, costing a company money. Sheraton Time Square Hotel has an opportunity to become more successful with a unified database. These could be competitive advantages for Sheraton Time Square Hotel in the future allowing them to be timely and effective.
